Salesforce runs Agentforce on its own help site as Customer Zero

Salesforce deployed its Agentforce agents on help.salesforce.com in October 2024 and reports millions of conversations since. Its own figures put the share resolved without a human at 83% in December 2024 and 70% in June 2026.

The problem

Salesforce runs a large public help site for its customers. The company wanted to use its own agent product as a test bed ("Customer Zero") and reduce the number of questions that need a human support case.

What they built

The Help Agent, Salesforce's implementation of Agentforce on help.salesforce.com, launched in October 2024. It answers customer questions on the site and hands off to people when needed.

How they did it

Salesforce's first-year write-up says agents work best when given goals instead of fixed steps, and that consistent data matters most. The team used data governance, source cleanup and Data Cloud. It reviewed conversations at scale to catch subtle failures and tuned the tone. In the July 2026 article, the team added inline citations after users asked where answers came from. Salesforce says it built what it learned into the Help Agent product it sells.

Results

At the December 2024 Agentforce 2.0 keynote, CEO Marc Benioff said about 32,000 conversations a week were running, 83% resolved by the agent, with human handoffs down from 10,000 to about 5,000 conversations. After one year, Salesforce reported 1.5+ million support requests handled, most without humans. In June 2026 it reported 4.3 million inquiries handled and 70 percent resolved.

What went wrong

Salesforce's first-year write-up lists several problems. Answers were accurate but felt transactional, so the team added more empathetic responses. A competitor block list was too strict and stopped the agent answering a question about integrating Microsoft Teams with Salesforce. An outdated, rarely updated page conflicted with current help articles, which can lead an agent to make up an answer. A separate sales agent said "I don't know" 30% of the time on lead details before cleanup cut that to under 10%.

Lessons for your project

  1. Clean and consolidate source content first. An outdated page that contradicted current help articles risked the agent inventing an answer.

  2. Review conversations for tone as well as accuracy; Salesforce found early answers correct but cold.

  3. Avoid blunt guardrails. A competitor block list stopped the agent answering a Microsoft Teams integration question.

  4. Add citations to answers. Salesforce says inline citations tested internally lifted adoption by 27%.

Caveats

  • All figures come from Salesforce or its CEO; no independent audit was found.
  • Resolution rates differ across dates (83% in December 2024, 70% in June 2026) and the sources do not explain the counting method.
  • The sources do not name the underlying model.
  • Salesforce is also the vendor, so this is a self-deployment of its own product.
