MIXI

MIXI rolls out ChatGPT Enterprise to all staff and reaches 80% weekly use in under three months

MIXI, a Japanese entertainment and lifestyle company, gave ChatGPT Enterprise to every employee in March 2025 and backed it with training and a hackathon. Within under three months weekly use reached 80%, and staff had created more than 1,800 custom GPTs. MIXI also publishes a survey-based time-saving projection, which this case treats as an estimate and not as a result.

The problem

MIXI has promoted generative AI use since 2023, but individual tools and pockets of enthusiasm do not change how a whole company works. It wanted every employee to have a safe, supported way to use AI in daily work.

What they built

In March 2025 MIXI introduced ChatGPT Enterprise, OpenAI's business version of ChatGPT, to all employees. That includes full-time, contract, part-time and temporary staff, about 2,000 people as of April 2025. Employees can build custom GPTs, which are small assistants set up for one task. Staff use them mainly to write and edit text, brainstorm, research and check facts, troubleshoot technical problems, and analyse data.

How they did it

MIXI worked with OpenAI on a ChatGPT 101 course for all staff, a workshop for 2025 graduate hires and a hackathon for engineers using OpenAI's Agents SDK. An AI Committee set up in December 2024 oversees adoption, and each division has an AI ambassador. Internal guidelines require that what staff enter matches confidentiality labels. Each department reports its use cases monthly.

Results

MIXI says weekly use reached 80% in less than three months and monthly use exceeded 90%. Employees created more than 1,800 custom GPTs, roughly triple the number at launch. In a survey three months after rollout, 99% of users said productivity improved and 89% said job satisfaction improved. MIXI also uses the survey to project a company-wide time saving (its release says work time is "expected" to fall by about 17,600 hours a month). That figure is an extrapolation from self-reported answers, not a measured result. Individual teams also report gains, for example about 10 minutes instead of 30 minutes to an hour for a legal review of terms of service.

Lessons for your project

  1. Pair a licence rollout with training. MIXI ran a course for all employees, a workshop for new graduates and an engineer hackathon, together with OpenAI.

  2. Let employees build their own tools. More than 1,800 custom GPTs appeared on their own, which MIXI treats as a sign of adoption rather than compliance.

  3. Put guardrails in place early. MIXI uses internal guidelines tied to confidentiality labels and assigns AI ambassadors to each division.

  4. Treat survey-based time savings as estimates. MIXI built its monthly figure from self-reported answers and scaled it up, so test the method before reusing the number in a business case.

Caveats

  • The 17,600 hours per month figure, which MIXI uses in its press release headline, is an expectation and not a measurement, so it is not listed as a metric. MIXI took the lower bound of each answer range from survey respondents, scaled the result to its active users and describes the outcome as expected (the release gives about 11 hours per user per month). The survey had 338 valid responses.
  • The adoption figures and department examples come from MIXI's own press release. A second news outlet repeats them, and OpenAI's customer page (dated 20 August 2025) says over 80% of employees were weekly active users within three months, but it counts more than 1,600 GPTs, not 1,800; the two counts are not reconciled. No independent party audited the figures.
  • The 99% describes surveyed users, not all employees.
  • MIXI says it also uses several other generative AI tools, so not all of its AI usage comes from ChatGPT Enterprise.
  • The sources do not state licence costs.
